DAVE. The only track on the CD with just the one guitar track on the first verse and chorus. Of course it all kicks off after that with the full arsenal of extra guitars, ooohs from Rick and lower backing vocals from yours truly. I do love the stuff that Rick's doing on keyboards near the end. It gives the song an almost romantic and ethereal quality, to my ears. This song also has my favourite vocal performance from John, given with real emotion.
RICK. Back To The Sea is a highlight for me. Both John and I welled up when we independently sang "devolve in the sea and lose our legs, find a reef to lay your eggs." Get a grip men!
JOHN. My favourite song on the CD. It was pretty emotional to sing. I think those who listen to this song will be moved. One of Dave's finest and a beautifully understated running bass line in the chorus from Rick. A spine-tingling song.
lyrics
WE'LL WALK ON THE BEACH
AS THE SUN SETS
TALK TO THE WAVES
AS WE FORGET
THE TIES THAT BIND
THE TIES THAT BIND
COMMUNE WITH THE STARS
THAT TAKE OUR BREATH
LOSE OURSELVES
AND TAKE WHAT'S LEFT
THE TIES THAT BIND
THE TIES THAT BIND
I'M GONNA TAKE YOU BACK TO THE SEA
I'M GONNA TAKE YOU BACK TO THE SEA
DEVOLVE IN THE SEA
AND LOSE OUR LEGS
FIND A REEF
TO LAY YOUR EGGS
THE TIES THAT BIND
THE TIES THAT BIND
WE'LL WALK ON THE BEACH
AS THE SUN SETS
TALK TO THE WAVES
AS WE FORGET
THE TIES THAT BIND
THE TIES THAT BIND
I'M GONNA TAKE YOU BACK TO THE SEA
I'M GONNA TAKE YOU BACK TO THE SEA
I'M GONNA TAKE YOU BACK TO THE SEA
I'M GONNA TAKE YOU BACK TO THE SEA
