DAVE. This song has the best bass line on the CD and one of my favourites ever. I love the combination of the brilliant drumming and the keys on the instrumental section too. The extra backing vocals on the last verse are out of this world.
RICK. Astronaut has one of Dave's favourite bass lines. Cheers Mate! Weirdly I was thinking of Waltzing Matilda when I heard this one. I don't know why!
JOHN. The first line of this song is a memory from a gig The Strookas played in the late 1980s (I think). Dave and I were lying on our backs on the grass after a hot sweaty gig and staring up at the night sky in Folkestone. The rest of the song is a modern day twist on the film A Matter of Life and Death starring David Niven and Kim Hunter. It's a pretty basic love song. Amazing bassline! It goes all over the shop!
lyrics
LYING FLAT OUT ON OUR BACKS
STARING AT THE NIGHT
MAKING SENSE OF WHAT WE SEE
BUT DOES IT REALLY MATTER NOW
HOW WE CAME TO BE?
I'VE GOT A PLAN
JUST GIVE ME TIME
JETTISON THE FUEL TANKS
AS I ROCKET THROUGH THE SKY
I WILL COLLECT THE STARS FOR YOU
JETTISON THE FUEL TANKS
AS I ROCKET THROUGH THE SKY
I WILL BE YOUR ASTRONAUT
ALONE WITHOUT A CAPSULE
IT'S NOT THE SMARTEST MOVE
MY SATELLITE HAS LOST YOU
HEADING FOR THE OCEAN NOW
I'VE GOT TO FIND A SHORE
NOW YOU'RE NOT WITH ME ANYMORE
