DAVE. I googled this phrase and the full phrase could be "it's been years if it's been a day." For me, "It's been a day" is something you say to a friend/ partner/ workmate etc. after a particularly trying day, perhaps hoping to make sense of or draw a line under it. There's a nice bit of floor tom that John does on the chorus and some lovely backing vocals from Rick in the second verse.
RICK. It's Been A Day is immediately punchy. Can you hear the very low vocal hums I'm doing in the pre-chorus? My favourite bit is the bridge. Dave plays a blinder over some lovely changes. It's slightly unexpected. It makes me think of the baroque trumpet solo in XTC's Merely A Man. Brilliant!
JOHN. Love the solo. Dave turns into Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson but without the long, straight hair and fag in hand.
